About Me

My name is Teagan Lawson-Van Meter, and I am an artist based out of DFW. I have been making art since I was a little girl and have always been more on the creative side. Now I’m a dance teacher as well as an artist.

I studied Drawing & Painting at the University of North Texas. It wasn’t until I was in college when I realized I wanted to paint for myself, and that my medium of choice is acrylic on canvas. I wanted to paint what brought me joy and expression. I grew up on “scary things” thanks to my mother! We ran a haunted house out of our backyard when I was younger. I saw my first scary movie when I was 5, and my brother is a horror memorabilia collector, so you could say “spooky” runs in the family. However, I don’t just paint spooky things. I paint things from my dreams, for fun, and for commission.

As for how I came about “Black Cat Creations”. I had an 8 year old black cat named Poe. He was always my painting buddy, staying up with me during late night painting sessions for school, hanging out for hours with me in my studio, and even being my inspiration at times. So it seemed to be the perfect fit for my business name.
